Don Salvador’s eldest daughter Doña Maria Josepha Sophia became head of the Imperial House of Mexico following the death of her uncle Augustin in 1925.
A modest and very religious lady she played no political role whatsoever. She married twice and had two daughters. Following the end of the Second World War and despite her very advanced age, the Rumanian Communist government interned her and her second husband as class enemies of the people. She and her second husband died under mysterious and suspicious circumstances shortly after their internment in 1949. Her heir according to her will and testament and in accordance to both her daughters’ wishes was her only grandson Don Maximiliano von Götzen-Iturbide.
